Fergus Sloan Harris scrapbook, 1861-1899.

Scrapbook contains clippings, poems, essays, speeches, a roster, and a letter. Clippings pertain to the Civil War and to Confederate reunions in Tennessee. Essays include a heavily edited typescript copy of "This composition is on Aigs [eggs]," handwritten reminiscences "At the Battle of Gettysburg, " a handwritten essay about "Negro superstitions, " and a recipe for controlling a hot temper. Also includes an edited typescript of the "Speech of Hon. Temple Houston, " a roster of Company H, 7th Tennessee, and a letter (1899) from Alexander Peter Stewart of the War Department in Chattanooga acknowledging the letter Harris wrote which expressed sympathy for Stewart's recent injury.

Nashville, Tennessee resident and Confederate States of America Army captain. Wounded several times during the war, Fergus Sloan Harris (1840-1905) was promoted to the rank of lieutenant, then captain of Company H of the 7th Tennessee Infantry. In 1864 he was given command of Archer's Tennessee Brigade of Sharpshooters. After the war he returned to private life as a businessman in Lebanon, Tennessee.
